  1. One in 36 children are diagnosed with Autism. As the fastest-growing developmental disability in the US, you or someone you know and love is a part of the Autism community. Be the connection this April by supporting the Autism Society Tidewater Virginia in our quest to educate, advocate, and support the Autism community. (Donate)

  2. In 2022, the CDC worked with the American Academy of Pediatrics to develop a more comprehensive list of milestones that infants and toddlers should be hitting from 2 months through age 5. 75% of children in this age group meet these milestones; you know your child best, speak to your pediatrician early if these are not being met. (National statement)

  3. If you suspect your child is Autistic, seek interventions as soon as possible, do not wait for a diagnosis. Learn more about screening and diagnosis here. (Screening & Diagnosis)

  4. Making informed decisions about supports and interventions is emotional and challenging. While there are a variety of support services, you must decide what is best for you and/or your loved one. Learn more about the Autism Society’s “Making Informed Decisions'' policy. (Making Informed Decisions)

  5. Over the next decade up to 1.1 million Autistic teens will transition to adulthood, effectively aging out of state funded supports and services. Give today to ensure that we can advocate for better legislation to support adults with quality, long-term, home and community based services.

  6. Has the Autism Society Tidewater Virginia helped you or a loved one seek an Autism diagnosis? If so, share your story below with the hashtag, #CelebrateDifferences.

April represents an invaluable opportunity to share stories and resources, educate others about Autism and issues within the Autism community, and drive home the importance of acceptance. We look forward to sharing important information, valuable resources, and engaging activities throughout the month, and we hope you will join us!
